Senior Tutors Profile
Mark
Secondary and Higher Education
With a decade of experience and an impressive academic record, Mark is an expert in tutoring English, Maths and History to all ages and abilities.
Mark specialises in guiding students through the middle and senior school years, including entrance tests at 11+ and 13+, GCSEs, A-levels and IB, with a focus on English, Maths and History. Mark is also very experienced in helping university students in the humanities, particularly with structuring and writing dissertations and coursework.
Mark went to Cambridge University and gained a Double First in History, including the Joslin Essay-writing Prize for Economic History, and a Distinction in his Masters. Prior to that, he attended KCS Wimbledon, where he received 45 points in the IB. He has tutored English, Maths and History for over a decade and has an immense wealth of experience across schools, exam boards and examinations. At 11+ and 13+, Mark has never had a student not gain entrance to one of the schools to which they were applying, while all of his GCSE, IB, A-level and Pre-U students have either hit or performed their predicted grades. Most recently, he has worked closely with two university students, helping them to a 2:1 and a First, considerably outperforming both of their expectations.
Mark has worked with students across a wide ability spectrum; he aims to make sessions as engaging as possible and tailors lessons to his students’ personality and learning methods. He is as comfortable spending a two-year long stretch with a student as he is with shorter “crash-course” periods, and indeed has taught intense May examination courses where an entire syllabus has to be delivered in 16 hours of teaching time. In particular he aims to impart the revision and learning strategies that he picked up at school and university, changing not just what students learn but how they learn.
